Knee & Shoulder Arthroscopy

Keyhole surgery for knee and shoulder problems — small incisions, faster recovery than open surgery.

What brings people in

  • A knee that locks, clicks or gives way
  • Swelling that keeps returning after activity
  • A torn ligament from sport or a fall
  • Shoulder pain when reaching overhead
  • A shoulder that keeps dislocating

What is done here

  • Knee arthroscopy
  • ACL reconstruction
  • Meniscus repair or trimming
  • Shoulder arthroscopy and rotator cuff repair
  • Shoulder stabilisation

What the visit is like

Your knee or shoulder is examined and the diagnosis explained before any scan is ordered. If keyhole surgery will genuinely help, you are told what it will and will not fix, and what happens if you do nothing.

Questions about this treatment

Will arthroscopy treat my arthritis?
Usually not. Arthritis is wear of the joint's surface, and trimming loose tissue does not replace the surface. Arthroscopy helps mechanical problems — locking, a tear, loose fragments — which is why the diagnosis is confirmed before it is offered.
How quickly will I recover?
Keyhole surgery recovers faster than open surgery, but the joint still needs weeks of rest and then physiotherapy before it is right. Athletes return to sport on their surgeon's timeline, not their own.
Do I need a scan before surgery?
An MRI is often what confirms it, but it is ordered because the examination says a specific thing, not as a routine. Some scans are only read correctly alongside the examination.
